Laser Hair Removal

When it comes to hair removal, women and men want a treatment that will provide long-lasting results so they can ditch the hassle of constant plucking and shaving. We offer laser hair removal with the Sciton® Bare HR™ and LUMENIS® LightSheer lasers, a two-laser hair removal system that we feel delivers exceptional results for our patients. In fact, most of our patients are extremely happy with the outcome of their laser hair removal.

These laser hair removal treatment systems work by targeting the hair follicles without affecting the surrounding tissue, resulting in improved laser hair removal results with less damage to the skin. They are effective at removing hair from patients with a variety of skin types at varying hair depths.

For maximum effectiveness, a laser hair removal treatment cycle will be recommended. Most patients need eight treatments to target all the hairs in a treatment site. This is because, at any one time, some hair follicles will be in a growth phase while others will be dormant. Only hair that is actively growing will respond to treatment, and each additional treatment will be able to target follicles that were previously in a dormant state. At CaloSpa®, you receive unlimited treatments every 4 weeks on the face or every 6 weeks on the body for one entire year if necessary to maximize your results.

The Procedure

During treatment, the laser hair removal device emits pulsed light beams to target hair follicles without causing significant harm to the surrounding skin. The procedure is noninvasive and nonsurgical. Treatment time depends on the amount of hair and the size of the treated area, but most people finish their procedure in under an hour.

Women often choose laser hair removal at CaloSpa® to treat hair in the underarms, facial hair, or hair along the bikini line. The back, neck, shoulders, and chest are the most common treatment areas for men.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Will It Hurt?

A. Most patients feel a light stinging sensation when the laser pulses are activated to treat areas of unwanted hair. The level of discomfort varies from person to person and can be controlled with a topical anesthetic if necessary. Often, the sensation during treatment is compared to a rubber band snap against the skin. Discomfort following treatment is minimal.

How Does It Compare to Electrolysis?

A. Laser hair removal is also more comfortable and, in many cases, more effective than electrolysis, a procedure that involves shocking each hair follicle one by one with a tiny needle. Also, there is a slight risk of scarring following electrolysis treatments, which laser hair removal avoids.

What About Recovery?

A. Most of our patients enjoy a quick recovery with minimal discomfort following their laser hair removal treatments, although experiences vary. The skin, particularly around the hair follicles, may be red and irritated for a brief period after treatment, but any minor discomfort should not keep you from carrying on with your day’s activities. Moisturizers can be used to soothe treated skin if needed.

As the treatment area recovers, it is important not to shave or pluck hairs, and avoid any cosmetic products that will overly dry the skin. In addition, you should avoid exposure to sunlight and use a sunscreen rated at SPF 30 or higher if you are planning to be outdoors.

How Long Will My Results Last?

A. Laser hair removal achieves long-lasting hair reduction, not total elimination of all hair at a treatment site. The degree of hair removal varies from patient to patient. Over the long term, you should be able to achieve a 75% to 85% reduction in the amount of unwanted hair.1

Is Laser Hair Removal Right for Me?

Our hair removal laser is effective on almost all skin types. Treatment works best when a patient’s skin is lighter than the hair being treated, so people with light blonde, red, or gray hair may see more limited results than those with very light skin and very dark hair.
