Laser Skin Resurfacing This Winter

At our med spa in Lexington, KY, patients often complain about facial veins, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and acne scars. Laser skin resurfacing can be a great way to address all those issues. While there is never a bad time to schedule an appointment, winter can be a great time to undergo laser treatments for several reasons.

  • After treatment, minor side effects like redness, swelling, and moderate irritation may occur. Recovery time typically lasts 10 to 14 days. Many people have company holidays at this time of year, which may make it easier for you to take time off.
  • Skin is more sensitive and prone to irritation after laser skin resurfacing. Because of this, we advise patients to avoid wearing makeup in the days following the treatment. In case you’re self-conscious about going out without makeup (with red, irritated skin) winter weather makes it more enticing to stay in.
  • During winter, it is much easier to avoid sun exposure, which can compromise the benefits of your treatment and cause increased skin damage. The risks of sun exposure include inflammation of the skin, sunburn, permanent discoloration, and sometimes scarring, among other things. Regardless of what time of year it is, we always recommend you wear SPF 30 sunscreen or higher during the days following the procedure.
  • Sometimes we recommend more than one treatment to achieve optimal results. Many patients undergo 2 to 4 treatments spaced around 4 to 8 weeks apart. If you start your treatments during winter, you will be able to finish before summer, when it will be harder to avoid sun exposure.

In fact, winter is the perfect time for all skin rejuvenation procedures. We offer several different options that can treat your specific aesthetic concerns. For example, microneedling uses small needles to kickstart your natural biological process of collagen production, which helps keep skin looking healthy and youthful. Another option is a peel that can smooth skin texture and improve pigmentation irregularities.

If you want to learn more about your options, request a spa consultation online or call our Louisville location at (502) 814-3000 or our Lexington location at (859) 269-2256.
