Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Facials
You can take your skin rejuvenation treatment to another level with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facials in Louisville and Lexington at CaloSpa®. A PRP facial generates new collagen and elastin—the building blocks of smooth, more youthful-looking skin—with little downtime.
What is PRP?
Even though PRP therapy started generating buzz in the cosmetic world only a few years ago, the technique is well-established in the medical field. Doctors initially used PRP to help the healing process and high-level athletes often rely on PRP to bounce back more quickly from injuries to tendons, ligaments, and muscles. The same growth factors contained in PRP that aid in healing are instrumental in the benefits associated with PRP facials.
PRP uses the patient's own blood to produce concentrated plasma. After blood is drawn, it's spun to separate the nourishing plasma from other parts of the blood. Because the patient's blood is used, there is no risk of bloodborne pathogens.
The PRP Facial Procedure
A PRP facial uses microneedling to create tiny channels in the skin that absorb the plasma. Microneedling produces impressive results on its own, but it's especially effective when combined with PRP. The treatment begins with your provider applying a topical numbing cream to help keep you comfortable during the procedure. The microneedling procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour. After drawing your blood and gathering the PRP, the provider applies it to the skin. We can also combine the PRP facial technique with INFINI™ or Profound® facial skin tightening treatments.
A PRP facial, either by itself or combined with other treatments, is an excellent solution for the following skincare concerns:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin laxity
- Sun damage
During your consultation, a skincare specialist can recommend the best treatment plan for your specific needs.
PRP therapy is a nonsurgical treatment, but it will cause some redness and swelling. We provide detailed post-treatment instructions and recommend that patients take the rest of the day off after a procedure. The results emerge gradually over several weeks as the new collagen and elastin created by the treatment is produced.
