Sofwave™ Skin Tightening

sofwave logoIt might be when you first notice the softening of your chin’s definition or when your brows start to sag. Signs of aging can creep up on us, and it’s typically when skin begins feeling and looking less firm that women and men think about non-surgical skin tightening treatments. At our Louisville med spa, Sofwave helps people from Lexington, KY, and Floyds Knobs, IN, tighten the skin on the neck and below the chin, lift the eyebrows, and minimize fine lines and wrinkles.

How Does Sofwave Work?

Sofwave delivers ultrasound energy to a precise depth below the skin’s surface, stimulating the body’s natural healing response to produce new collagen and elastin—essential elements of smooth, tight skin. The treatment is cleared by the FDA to tighten skin on the neck, below the chin, and above the eyes, in addition to reducing wrinkles and fine lines. During the treatment, Sofwave continuously cools the skin’s surface as the ultrasound technology’s thermal energy penetrates the skin.

Is Sofwave Right for You?

Women and men who are good candidates for Sofwave treatments are often in their 30s or older. In most cases, one of the following statements applies:

  • You have mild to moderate skin laxity around the eyebrow line, chin, neck, or décolletage.
  • You aren’t ready for plastic surgery, or you don’t need a facelift.
  • You’ve already had plastic surgery and want to extend its results.

You can also ask our providers about other skin tightening procedures offered at CaloSpa, such as Infini® or truSculpt®.

Sofwave vs. Ultherapy: What’s the Difference?

Even though both Sofwave and Ultherapy use ultrasound energy for skin tightening, Sofwave’s SUPERB™ (Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam) technology delivers heat with more precision and less depth than Ultherapy. Focusing on the mid-dermal layer of skin, Sofwave minimizes the discomfort associated with Ultherapy treatments without sacrificing results. Another positive aspect of Sofwave is its ability to target multiple points, covering a larger treatment area at one time and shortening the procedure time. Sofwave also has a built-in cooling mechanism to cool and protect the skin’s surface.

The Procedure

A Sofwave treatment begins with your provider applying a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort. After your skin is numb, we’ll wipe away the anesthetic cream and apply a gel that conducts ultrasound energy. Then the provider gently moves the Sofwave handpiece across the skin’s surface. Patients feel a sensation of warmth, but the simultaneous cooling and anesthetic keep them comfortable. A typical treatment session takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Often Asked

What is recovery like after a Sofwave procedure?

There’s minimal downtime after a Sofwave treatment, and most patients resume their normal daily activities after leaving our office. Most patients don’t experience any bruising or skin discoloration after the treatment.

When will I see results?

Because the treatment stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, the results gradually appear as that process occurs. Some patients notice changes a week after their treatments, but the skin’s elasticity will continue improving for up to 3 months.

Is Sofwave an alternative to plastic surgery?

Sofwave, like other non-surgical skin tightening treatments, is designed for patients whose skin and underlying muscle remain relatively youthful looking. Surgery such as a facelift will yield more dramatic results.
